Figure Drawing

Charcoal figure drawing - Helen Davison

Figure study, charcoal on Fabriano Roma

My latest figure drawing project from Sarum Studio. This was completed in 8 sessions of around 2 hours each. The actual drawing has a greater sense of luminosity and flow of light than is captured by the photograph. Still, you get the idea.

This was a lovely pose to work with. There is a sense of something dynamic in the tension and weight distribution, as well as a psychology to the portrait. I left the far leg until the last session, and the ankle and foot are not fully developed. I kind of wish I’d left them a little more sketchy and in progress, but again, the things that leap out in the photograph are not so apparent in the actual work.
