Moving on and getting back to work

Well, back to work after a couple of weeks away from the easel. There’s nothing like the meditation of concentrated drawing to make you forget other thoughts and simply be in the present. This was a complicated pose to capture – not least because it was very difficult for George to re-find and hold the same position for extended periods. Having an understanding of anatomy helped towards resolving the drawing into something believeable, without slavishly chasing each change.

This small oil painting of George in a similar pose was a bit of a pre-curser to this larger drawing. George stepped in when the scheduled model was unable to make it to class. It’s definitely just a sketch and lacks refinement. I would have liked a little longer on it, but as it stands I still rather like it.
