Fresh Air 2013
Fresh Air is a biennial sculpture exhibition taking place in Quenington, Gloucestershire. According to the website,
it provides a unique opportunity to see a creative mixture of traditionally modern and cutting-edge contemporary work in a stunning outdoor setting.
We always make an effort to visit this wonderful exhibition, and are always pleased to see something so eclectic and of such high quality in a local setting. In previous years we have basked in fabulous summer heat and sunshine. This time, we went to the opening Private View and contended with a chill wind that whipped my hair into my eyes and made me wish for at least two more layers of clothing.
Whenever I can I like to plan at least two visits to an exhibition. Once to go around and get an overall feel of how the work flows, and also to see if anything immediately makes an impression. A second time, I will return to pieces I remember and contemplate them more fully. Invariably, I will discover incredible work that for some reason I previously missed.
Here are some photos from our visit. I didn’t make a note of all of the artists and I can’t work out the correct attribution for some pieces that are pictured. That’s a bit rubbish, and I apologise to the artists as well as readers who would like to know more. I also didn’t get any decent images of a couple of other pieces that I really loved. You can see them on the Fresh Air blog though. Look out for ‘Sugar Plum’ driftwood foal by Heather Jansch, and the oversized ceramic thorns of Natalia Dias.
Check out the Fresh Air 2013 website for a comprehensive overview of the artists and work on display. There’s also a great blog and gorgeous photos. Opening details are as follows.
