The Green Bottle
A new Alla Prima sketch of (what I think are) hyacinths in an old green bottle. The flowers were growing outside and are rather more sparse than the ones you buy potted for the inside. Whether they are a different variety, or that’s simply what the weather does to them, I don’t know. Again, I over worked this one. It had more charm when it was just a little more loosely painted. My favourite passage is the area around the scissors. I kept things very simple and suggestive of form, and I think it is the part of the painting that is the most successful.
