Lone Feather

Still life oil painting of a feather by Helen Davison

‘Lone Feather’. Oil on card, 8″ x 6″

Found on a walk where I saw 11(!) Red Kites, a couple of Buzzards, a Woodpecker and many little Partridges. I don’t know which bird this feather is from, but my guess is that it is a raptor of some sort. I thought it would be relatively easy to paint and would be a good warm-up exercise. It didn’t work out quite like that, being trickier than expected.

The photo isn’t very good. The lights are blown out and the darks too solid and contrasty. I might try again in better daylight.
